Michaela Larsen

Michaela Larsen believes that everyone deserves to experience joy through music, and that singers have the unique opportunity to use text to tell stories and express the full range of human emotion. She has been an active and invested educator since 2018, offering lessons in voice, piano, and ukulele. Her approach to singing is based in freedom and relaxation of the body, finding consistent tone throughout the voice's range and revealing the unique colors in each singer's true voice. While her specialty is classical singing, Michaela believes that finding the core of the voice prepares students to sing any and all repertoire they feel passionate about. Lessons with Michaela are centered around finding the joy in music, and building skills to allow for a lifetime of music making.

Michaela is an extremely active performer, both as a soloist and ensemble member. She is currently a member of the New York Philharmonic Chorus, frequently performing in the many venues of the Lincoln Center. She has been praised by The Brooklyn Discovery: she is “visually and vocally another bright ray”, and has a voice that is “plangent [and] coupled with excellent stagecraft”. She has traveled internationally and across the United States to perform in opera houses–most recently to Vienna, Austria where she spent the summer singing opera and enjoying wiener schnitzel. Recent opera credits include: Holst’s Sāvitri (title role), Britten’s Albert Herring (Nancy), and John Blow’s Venus & Adonis (Venus) with Stony Brook Opera; Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro (Cherubino) with Vienna Summer Music Festival; Mozart’s Lucio Silla (Celia), and Mozart’s Idomeneo (Elettra) with Chicago Summer Opera.

Michaela holds a Bachelor’s of Music Education from Michigan State University, and will complete her Master’s in Vocal Performance in May 2023 from Stony Brook University. She is a native Michigander, and outside of her musical life, is a marathon runner and avid houseplant gardener.
